It means very cold soil temperatures probably into the middle of June. It means planting later than usual even though you are itchin' to set a few plants out. It means covering the soil with black plastic or biodegradable paper to warm the soil. It means putting more things in containers so in the fall you can move them daily. It means really paying attention to the shorter day varieties.
For me, it meant seeding later than usual. If we are going to have to plant a bit later then my plants better not be too large for transplanting. It makes me nervous to start things this late but then...I look outside!
As always I am trying something new. This year, it is biodegradable potting pouches for the perennials and some of the herbs. They should last two years. You'll have to let me know what you think of them.
Remember do not plant too early this year.
